As I am in my last semester of being a full-time student at the University of Alaska Anchorage, I am fast approaching the end of my academic career. Referring back to my two career goals, I am in a unique possession. As part of my internship that my degree required, I got to have the opportunity to work in the oil and gas industry. I had the opportunity to work in the Environmental department of Hilcorp for the summer and continuing on through school. While at Hilcorp, I am tasked to help with SPCC mapping, chemical reporting and G&I yearly sendoffs. This helped me grow my education and learn the process of environmental manners and how that plays into a company’s regulating measures. I had the opportunity to learn how Alaska is such a unique environment and how they figure the global environment into their decision making.

As the summer came to an end, Hilcorp kept me around and worked with my school schedule really well. My goals now are to keep growing my environmental knowledge as it pertains to work and how the environment is taken into account in every turn. As of right now I do not have plans to get my master’s degree but I have not totally ruled it out. My real academic goals have switched to knowing regulations and standards that are set by the EPA and other environmental agencies.
