Organization: Skate with the Seawolves

Dates: February 2016 and 2017

Involvement:

Every year as a member of UAA's Ice Hockey team, I skate with fans and supporters at Westchester Lagoon. This is a great opportunity for the fans to meet the players and for the players to meet everyone that supports us. Programs like these are a great way to give back to the community that has given us so much support and to show the importance of community. Without the support of people around me, I would not be where I am today academically or athletically. It feels great to be able to represent how important everyone is that supports not only myself, but my team.

Organization: 2002 Abbotsford Jr. Heat Ice Hockey Team

Job Title: Assistant Coach

Dates: March-June 2015 and 2016

Involvement:

As an assistant coach for the Jr. Heat, I was responsible for organizing a practice schedule and teaching the kids. This experience taught me how to be a positive role model that many of the kids were able to look up to. Being a strong positive influence on kids is extremely important and coaching is a great way to be able to do this. After the first season, the parents requested to have me back on the bench. My leadership qualities and work ethic allowed for the kids to grow as players on the ice but also as individuals off the ice. Long road trips meant time spent with the team and it was clear that my influence on the kids was positive.

Organization: Reading with the Chiefs and Reading with the Seawolves.

Dates: August 2012-Present

Involvement:

Reading with the Chiefs was a program through my Ice Hockey team, the Chilliwack Chiefs, that allowed for the players to go and read to Elementary school children in efforts to increase literacy. We would spend about twenty minutes reading stories for the kids before answering any questions they have. After reading, we would spend thirty minutes playing floor hockey with them. This allowed for us to be role models to the young kids in our community. Reading with the Seawolves is the same but through the University of Alaska Anchorage Men's Ice Hockey team.

Organization: Saint Baldrick's Foundation

Website: https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/843114/2016

Dates: April 10, 2016

Involvement:

In April, 2016, I shaved my head for childhood cancer awareness. In doing so I was able to raise $215 for Saint Baldrick's Foundation. Having the experience of directly witnessing the positive influence I can have on someone made this decision extremely easy. I am delighted to be a part of Saint Baldrick's Foundation and will willingly contribute any way I can in the future.
