TOMODACHI UAA-Iwate Joint Project Background:

UAA’s Montgomery Dickson Center for Japanese Language & Culture (MDCJLC) was established in 2012 to commemorate Montgomery Dickson, who graduated from UAA with a B.A. in Japanese and who died in the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami while serving as a Japan Exchange and Teaching Assistant Language Teacher in Rikuzentakata, Iwate prefecture, Japan. As part of the Monty’s Kakehashi (Bridging) Project, the MDCJLC and UAA’s Department of Geography & Environmental Studies will conduct a joint project with Iwate University and offer the following faculty-led program course. This project has been made possible by generous grants from the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership New York and U.S.-Japan Council’s TOMODACHI Washington D.C.
