Research Question Activity (Portfolio Post)
For each of the following two research topics, select the best research question from those listed below. Why did you choose that question? What makes it better than the other options? As an alternative, you may choose to create your own research question for the topic and explain why you like it better than the options provided.
Please note that there isn't a single correct answer. Your argument for your selection is the most important thing for this assignment. Please be clear and concise, and make references to this unit's lesson (readings, videos, etc.) as appropriate. Though I'm not a fan of setting length requirements, I will say that I have a hard time imagining an "A" level response shorter than 200 words (at least 100 per question), and it will likely take many more than that to fully address the prompt.
You will be graded according to the "General Assignment Criteria" listed in your syllabus (in the Grading Criteria section).
Research Questions
1. Research Topic: Head injuries in football
Potential research questions:
- What impacts do head injuries have on football players?
- Should more be done to prevent football head injuries?
- Is football a dangerous sport?
- Should more be done to prevent head injuries in high school football?
2. Research topic: Mining in Alaska
Potential research questions:
- How should the development of natural resources in Alaska be managed?
- What impacts will the Pebble Mine have on Alaska?
- Should the Pebble Mine be developed?
- Should mining be allowed near Alaska's rivers and streams?
