Osama Abaza was born in Nablus, a northern city in the Palestinian West Bank. Being the youngest of 10 children, he was raised juggling chores in a busy household and learning the value of hard work from a young age by working with his dad at their family business. Osama accomplished this while excelling in school, which earned him the opportunity to attend University of Toledo Ohio, in which he received his B.S. in civil engineering in 1983, and an M.S. in civil engineering the following year. He returned to his hometown to work at An-Najah University as an instructor before coming back to the U.S. to earn his doctoral degree from Brigham Young University in Utah. He has since dedicated his work to academia in the field of civil/transportation engineering, producing more than 62 peer-reviewed publications.

Osama is married to his wife Mona and they’ve been blessed with three children. In his free time, Osama likes to spend time with his family, take on home improvement projects, and watch sports. Some of his favorite teams include the New England PatriotsBYU Cougars, and LA Lakers. He also enjoys travel, as his fondest memory is a family vacation to Egypt where he marveled at the pyramids of Giza. Osama was a big fan of Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show, and his favorite movies include Eddie Murphy's Trading Places, and Coming to America.
