PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

Dr. Abaza's goal as a professor has been to continue a balanced and sustainable professional program that integrates teaching, scholarship activities, and university and professional services to address the missions of the University of Alaska (UA) and the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). His goal is to enhance student success and attainment, partnerships with the local community through public entities and private industries, and research and development—all in pursuit of a better quality of life for our community and, beyond that, all human beings. To achieve this balance, he has established his program based on the following characteristics:

  • Effective preparation of graduate and undergraduate students through educational activities that prepare them for today’s work market and help them face current and future challenges as professionals.
  • Effective pursuit of external multidisciplinary multi-institutional collaboration that is driven by local, regional, and national needs.
  • Research projects that produce results recognized as valuable by transportation
  • professionals, and provide opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students to get involved in multi-disciplinary, high-quality design/research activities.
  • Service to the university and the profession in a manner that contributes to their respective missions and obligations to society.
