SeaWolf Engineering

SeaWolf Engineering is a simulation of a consulting engineering firm and a capstone course for upper division civil engineering students. Professor Abaza acts as the president of the engineering firm, with two affiliate faculties on board representing major public agencies in the community and several professional registered engineers as mentors. Students in this setting integrate their education in civil engineering projects in the local community. Projects addressed serve local and state agencies, non-profit organizations, and community councils.

Over the course of 9 years, SeaWolf Engineering has completed 31 non-profit civil engineering projects with public and private organizations. Students in CE 438 – Senior Design course are the employees of SeaWolf Engineering and collaborate in interdisciplinary teams to design complex engineering systems. SeaWolf Engineering represents the ultimate integration of applying engineering coursework to real engineering problems, and providing for the community through nonprofit projects.

Upon completion of their projects with SeaWolf Engineering, students are able to 1) effectively communicate with engineering drawings, technical visualizations, and written technical reports, 2) work in interdisciplinary teams to design complex civil engineering systems, and 3) identify problems and opportunities to formulate alternative designs that meet the client's needs.
