Founded in September 2015 by postdoctoral fellows from the Department of Biological Sciences and WWAMI School of Medical Education, the UAA Postdoctoral Association (UAAPDA) was sparked by a national movement initiated by the AAAS sponsored National Postdoctoral Association (NPA).

Our mission is to create, nourish, and sustain an academic community for Postdoctoral Fellows at UAA to foster recognition and positive change. Membership is open to all scholars with a doctorate degree who do not currently hold permanent full-time faculty positions. The UAAPDA is not, and shall not serve as, a bargaining unit for any employee of the University in keeping with the standards established by the NPA.

Our goals are to:

  • Provide a forum for peer mentorship and collaboration
  • Synthesize and transfer Information to Postdoctoral Fellows (e.g. grant opportunities)
  • Generate opportunities for professional development (e.g. career development)
  • Foster and maintain connections with national organizations (e.g. NPA), as well as other members of the local academic community (graduate students and faculty)
