NAACP Youth Council

Xavier Mason acts as the President of the Anchorage NAACP Youth Council. The NAACP Anchorage Youth Council (YC) is a nonprofit organization that strives to make a BIG difference within Anchorage. The Youth Council’s primary objective is to create a sense of value within our members. We do this by advancing their economical, educational, social, and political status by creating opportunities such as: scholarships, studying abroad, international service trips, and so much more!

Over the past year, the Youth Council played a pivotal role in discussions with policy makers against permitting open carry on the UAA campus, lobbying the Juneau legislature over public education budget cuts, and peacefully protesting police brutality and racial profiling.

In January of 2016, the Youth Council led a day of service through a coalition of like-minded organizations such as the Sierra Club, Representative Geran Tarr, and others to shovel the pedestrian heavy sidewalks of Mountain View, because they are often unshoveled. The day promoted diversity, community building, and good times.
