Social-Entrepreneurship

It was in the summer of 2011; money was short, and Xavier's enrollment at UAA was in jeopardy. All the good grades he had earned would turn into rubble if he could not finish his education. Fortunately, he filled out every scholarship that he could find. Xavier filled out one to study abroad in Prague and forgot about it.  A month later, he received a phone call with the news that he had received the scholarship, a month later Xavier was in the beautiful city of Prague learning different philosophies of leadership and how to be a social entrepreneur.

Xavier found his purpose by combining his passions for business and helping others, under the tutelage of his former professor and dear friend Scott Sherman. Since, Xavier's departure from Prague, he have developed three businesses: VisualAid, CurrentEnergy, and HandMade. An avid reader, Xavier applies the seven principles for social business as taught by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus

  1. Business objective will be to overcome poverty, or one or more problems (such as education, health, technology access, and environment) which threaten people and society; not profit maximization
  2. Financial and economic sustainability
  3. Investors get back their investment amount only. No dividend is given beyond investment money
  4. When investment amount is paid back, company profit stays with the company for expansion and improvement
  5. Environmentally conscious
  6. Workforce gets market wage with better working conditions
  7. ...do it with joy
